C T Online Desk: After the completion of the Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar railway line, the old Kalurghat bridge has become an obstacle on the way from Chittagong to Cox’s Bazar.
Railways is taking the cooperation of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) to improve the speed of trains by renovating the 91-year-old dilapidated bridge.
For this reason, BUET initially bid 12 crore 65 lakh taka as the survey fee, but after several rounds of meetings with the railway authorities, it agreed to 8 crore rupees.
Kalurghat Bridge was visited on October 9 last year by AFM Saiful Amin, Prof. Khan Mahmud Amanat and Abdul Jabbar Khan.
They inspected the bridge and submitted a report to the railway. After receiving the report, the Railways is taking technical assistance from BUET to increase the capacity of the bridge.
