C T Online Desk: Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Bir Muktijoddha Rezaul Karim Chowdhury commented that Ekushey Book Fair has been organized to revive the spirit of liberation war.
Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said, come to the fair with your children, hand over books to the new generation instead of mobile phones.
The Mayor made the remarks while inaugurating the Amar Ekushey Book Fair organized by the Chittagong City Corporation at the gymnasium ground adjacent to MA Aziz Stadium on Wednesday.
In the speech of the chief guest, the Mayor said that the whole nation fought unitedly on the basis of the spirit of the Father of the Nation Bangabandh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1971, today the spirit has weakened. After the untimely death of Bangabandhu, the anti-independence forces seized power and tried to confuse people, especially children, by brainwashing them.
This book fair has been organized to reawaken the spirit of liberation war among the people by breaking the palace of lies through the book fair. Let every book of the book fair become a weapon of the ideals of the liberation war, this is our hope to build a fighting smart Bangladesh.
He said that starting from the significance of the language movement to the plans of the war of independence, books have helped to reach the people. That is why this book fair is organized to hand out books to the people of Chittagong. I am calling on the business people who are not using Bengali on the signboards of the business establishments to use Bengali on the signboards.
Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Shirin Akhtar said that the development of the state requires the development of education. And, it is not possible to build a good education system without good quality books. This book fair has become popular with the walk of thousands of book lovers in Chittagong, which will give us courage in our fight to build a better Bangladesh.
