C T Online Desk: To prevent crimes including robbery and dacoity, Dhaka-Chattogram highway will be taken under the coverage of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras.
Under the project, the video surveillance will be installed at 265 kilometer areas of the highway.
Among the CCTV cameras, 460 cameras will be set at 490 places. In the meantime, construction work to setting the cameras has already started.
A total of Tk 152.56 crore may be needed to implement the project.
Highway police source said various criminal activities have been taking place on the highway for a long.
Although law enforcement agencies are active, identifying and catching criminals are difficult job on the highway. Apart from this, at least 95 percent of export-import goods of Chattogram port are being transported through the highway.
According to transport owners, goods-laden vehicles often come under attack during transportation of exported goods coming from Dhaka to Chattogram.
