Trishal SI accused of kidnapping young man and demanding Tk 20 lakh extortion

C T Online Desk: Sarwar Jahan Jewel Mymensingh :  A case has been filed against former SI Nahid Parvez of Trishal police station in Mymensingh for allegedly kidnapping a young man and demanding extortion. The case was registered at Trishal police station on Monday on the orders of the court following an application by the family of the victim, Nazmul Haque. Trishal police station officer-in-charge (OC) Munsur Ahmed confirmed the matter.

According to the complaint, on June 11, Nazmul Haque, son of Jamal Uddin of Birrampur village, was kidnapped from under the Trishal bus stand overbridge by SI Nahid, local Sohel Mia, Firoz and 4-5 unidentified people. First, they were taken in a CNG car and beaten in different places. Later, they were kept at an unknown place and a ransom of Tk 20 lakh was demanded from the family and they were threatened that if the money was not given, they would not be returned.

The family claims that seeing no other option, they called the national emergency service 999 that night. At around 2 am, Trishal Police rescued Nazmul and handed him over to the family.

The victim’s family said that they filed a complaint with Trishal Police Station the day after the incident, but no action was taken even after two months. Later, they filed a complaint with the Superintendent of Police but did not get any redress and applied to the District Legal Aid Office. On September 2, both parties were given notice to appear, but the accused did not appear. Later, on the advice of Legal Aid, a complaint was filed with the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court on September 28, and the court ordered the case to be registered.

The victim’s brother, Azmat, said, “My brother was beaten up and forced to sign on some blank stamps. Then, Tk 2 million was demanded from his phone. Currently, my brother is undergoing treatment in Dhaka. We have been suffering from insecurity since the case was filed.”

Trishal Police Station Duty Officer Rezaul said that when the accused number was called on 999, the accused came to the police station with the kidnapped person and later handed him over to his family.

In this regard, Mymensingh Superintendent of Police Kamrul Hasan said, “I heard about the incident, but the complaint at the Superintendent of Police’s office did not come to my attention. In addition to investigating the case, the Superintendent of Police’s office will also look into the matter and take appropriate action against the accused SI.”

The accused SI Nahid Parvez had been working at Trishal Police Station for about two years and was transferred to Police Outpost No. 1 in Mymensingh Sadar about a month ago. He was called several times to inquire about this matter, but could not be contacted.
