Driver arrested after 2 years in bus crash that killed 4

C T Online Desk: Sarwar Jahan Jewel Mymensingh:  Police have arrested the bus driver, the main accused in a case filed in Trishal, Mymensingh, where four people were killed in a road accident two years ago.

He was arrested in a raid in Ashtamitala area of ​​Sherpur district at 6:15 am on Wednesday (April 1). The arrested driver has been identified as Rashedul Islam alias Miru Driver (38).

The incident and case report states,

On March 28, 2024, a Sherpur-bound ‘Sonar Maina Paribahan’ (Dhaka Metro-B-15-9553) hit a passenger CNG bus on the eastern side of the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway under Trishal Police Station. Four passengers of the CNG bus lost their lives.

The driver, Rashedul Islam, abandoned the car and fled immediately after the incident. He has been on the run for two years since then.

On the day of the accident (March 28, 2024), a case was registered at Trishal Police Station under Sections 98 and 105 of the Road Transport Act, 2018 (Case No. 36).

Police said that based on a secret tip-off, a special operation was conducted in the Ashtamitala area of ​​Sherpur district town this morning and the accused was arrested. After being on the run for a long time, his location was confirmed based on technology assistance and intelligence information.

Trishal Police Station said, “The killer driver was hiding in various places in disguise to escape the law. The arrested accused is being handed over to the court through proper legal process.”

The news of the arrest has brought relief to the families of the victims and locals, who have demanded exemplary punishment for the killer driver.
