C T Online Desk: Chief Justice (CJ) Syed Refaat Ahmed has agreed to extend all possible cooperation to the Election Commission for making the national election arrangement smooth, said Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Tuesday.
“We have boarded the ‘election train,’” the CEC told reporters after attending a meeting with the CJ at the Supreme Court.
Syed Refaat Ahmed has agreed to deploy 300 judges to serve as magistrates during the election, after AMM Nasir Uddin sought their poll-time assistance, the CEC said.
The CEC also said that he asked the chief justice to refrain from accepting any writ, which would challenge the current election preparations, after the poll schedule is announced. The chief justice has assured of assistance in this regard, the CEC told reporters.
The schedule for the February general elections will be announced this week, he added.
Earlier in the day, Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed and Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud told reporters in separate briefings that the election schedule will be announced on Wednesday evening or the following day.
