C T Online Desk: Mahmud Foysal, Staff Reporter : Noakhali Forest Department has held ‘One Martyr, One Tree’ program in honor of the sacrifices of the martyrs of the July Uprising.
On Saturday (July 19) morning, under the direction of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the District Administration and Coastal Forest Department, Noakhali, organized the ‘One Martyr, One Tree’ planting program at the Sonapur Degree College ground in Noakhali Sadar Upazila, under the chairmanship of Abu Yusuf, Divisional Officer of Coastal Forest Department, Noakhali, and Noakhali Deputy Commissioner Khandaker Ishtiaq Ahmed. During this, one sapling was planted in honor of the 6 martyrs killed in Sadar Upazila in the July Uprising.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Yasin, Sadar Upazila UNO Akhinur Jahan Nila, Sadar AC land Sahnewaz Tanvir, Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Officer Ibrahim Khalil, Noakhali Range Officer Main Uddin Ahmed, Sadar Range Officer Sheikh Md. Kamruzzaman, Principal of Sonapur Degree College Moazzem Hossain, and members of the families of 6 martyrs of Sadar Upazila, along with officers and employees of various levels of the Forest Department Noakhali and local media personnel were present.
On the spot, it was seen that, ‘Each tree had a memorial plaque of the July martyrs. The martyrs’ identities are given there. Along with the plaque, there was a QR code. When it is scanned, the role of the specific martyr in the July Uprising comes up.’ Earlier, as part of the revival program, the Forest Department had taken the decision to plant trees in 64 districts on July 19 in coordination with the concerned district administrations. It included a decision to plant various fruit, medicinal, forest and ornamental trees in memory of the martyrs.
Abu Yusuf, Divisional Officer of Coastal Forest Division, Noakhali, said, “The ‘One Martyr, One Tree’ program was initiated by the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation. Then, in a letter sent on July 2, they sought the cooperation of the Ministry of Forest and Environment in implementing this program. Then, the Ministry gave the responsibility to the Forest Department to implement this program. As part of that, we implemented this program in coordination with the district administration.”
