C T Online Desk: Chittagong WASA will supply water in District Metering Area (DMA) system next December. At present the work of the project is in full swing. It is being implemented under Sheikh Hasina Water Treatment Plant Project-2, a large project of the CWASA. When it is launched, WASA will supply water to half of the city’s customers through DMA system.
The project officials said that the customers will get regular quality water supply 24 hours a day. According to WASA sources, the project is being implemented in an area of 40 sq km of the city. It is bringing 43,000 customers under the district metering area. Under the project, 700 km supply pipeline has already been laid a new. Of these, 3,861 out of 3,879 culvert crossings have been completed. There are only 16 works left. The work of completing the remaining 16 works will be completed in coordination with the work of CDA’s waterlogging project.
According to sources, the project is being implemented with the funding of JICA of Japan. The total cost for this has been estimated at Tk 940 crore. When asked, Chittagong WASA Chief Engineer Maqsood Alam said, “WASA has 63,000 existing customer connections. Of these, 43,000 customer connections are being brought under this project. Customers in the project will get water equivalent pressure 24 hours a day. Water supply will be provided to the customers by ensuring water quality.
Engineer Maqsood Alam said, ‘Its work was started in 2016 under Sheikh Hasina Water Treatment Plant Project-2. The work is now in its final stage. Customers will benefit from the launch of the project, sources said.
