C T Online Desk: Sarwar Jahan Jewel Mymensingh : One person was killed and at least 12 others were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Ragamara Rangamatia area of Trishal upazila of Mymensingh on Tuesday evening. The accident took place around 7 pm.
Witnesses said a Mymensingh-bound passenger bus collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction. The collision was so severe that the front of the bus was twisted and the passengers were thrown out.
Immediately after the accident, local people, fire service and Trishal police station rushed to the spot and started rescue operations. A male passenger was killed on the spot. However, his name and identity could not be immediately confirmed.
The doctor on duty at the emergency department of Trishal Upazila Health Complex said that 11 of the 12 injured people were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital as their condition was serious. One person was discharged after receiving primary medical treatment.
Trishal Police Station OC (Investigation) Mobarak Hossain said, “Many of the injured in the accident are in critical condition. One person died on the spot. Currently, traffic on the highway is normal. Rescue work is underway.”
Locals have complained that such fatal accidents are happening repeatedly due to the lack of effective measures to stop traffic from moving in the opposite direction on the highway. Police said that legal proceedings are underway regarding the accident.
