C T Online Desk: A petition seeking suspension of bail for former president of the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) and actor Shomi Kaiser has been filed in an attempted murder case.
The petition was submitted by state lawyers on Wednesday to the relevant section of the Appellate Division.
On Sunday, Shomi Kaiser sought bail from the High Court in connection with the case filed at Uttara East Police Station. Following the hearing, the High Court granted her three months of bail.
Shomi Kaiser was arrested from her residence in Sector 4 of Uttara on the night of November 5. She was subsequently placed on a three-day remand and sent to jail after its conclusion on November 9.
The case stems from an anti-discrimination protest held on July 18, during which businessman Ishtiaq Mahmud and others participated. Allegedly, members of the Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League attacked the rally near Nawab Habibullah High School in Azampur, Uttara and opened fire. Ishtiaq sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen and received treatment at Evercare Hospital.
On September 29, Ishtiaq filed an attempted murder case at Uttara East Police Station, naming former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and 125 others as accused. Shomi Kaiser was listed as the 24th accused in the case.
