C T Online Desk: The US has been focusing more on bilateral economic relations with Bangladesh, among many other activities, said Tracey Ann Jacobson, chargé d’affaires, ad interim, US Embassy in Dhaka, today.
She was addressing a ceremony on the signing of a deal between United States Soybean Export Council (USSEC) and two local companies—KGS Group and Mahbub Group—organised by the former at Sheraton Dhaka.
She said the US has also focused on agricultural product exports to Bangladesh and Bangladesh is increasingly importing US commodities.
Jacobson also said the US exported $779 million-worth agricultural products to Bangladesh in 2024. This year the aim was to reach $1 billion and the signing ceremony was a part of that effort, she said.
Soybean meal exports from US to Bangladesh amounted to $5 million in 2023 and $20 million in 2024. This year, the amount is expected to reach $86 million, she said.
She was also hopeful that it would continue to grow, reasoning that the USSEC was producing a very special quality of soybean meal which would be beneficial for livestock and fisheries of Bangladesh.
