Protesters threaten to break into Bangabhaban at 7pm

C T Online Desk: Protesters united under different platforms on Tuesday afternoon threatened to cross police barricades and break into Bangabhaban, the president’s official residence, by 7pm if the law adviser fails disclose the next course of actions over the resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

The protesters also demanded the law adviser Asif Nazrul join them in the demonstrations by 7pm Tuesday.

Later, the chief adviser’s press wing said it is irrelevant to talk about the president’s resignation now, adding the interim government has taken no decision in this regard.

The demand for Shahabuddin’s resignation arose after he issued two contradictory statements over ousted dictator Sheikh Hasina’s resignation as premier on 5 August.

Later, on Monday evening, in a statement, the president clarified that the matter was settled under an Appellate Division ruling, which acknowledged that Hasina had resigned from her post.

In wake of the demonstrations, police and army personnel have beefed up presence at the gate of Bangabhaban.

Earlier, on Tuesday noon, demonstrations began on Dhaka University campus. From the rallies, the Shadhinata Sarbobhoumotto Rokkha Committee (Independence-Sovereignty Protection Committee) brought out a march towards the Bangabhaban.
