C T Online Desk: Md. Abdul Alim. Rickshaw driver by profession. He is driving a rickshaw in the scorching heat. I don’t know where to do iftar. His hope is to stand on the sidewalk and break his fast at a lower price.
Abdullah of Sandwip is a CNG autorickshaw driver by profession. His condition is the same. Iftar time will stand on the sidewalk and break the fast at low cost. In Ramadan, low-income people rely on sidewalk shops. Because they can break their fast there at a lower price. Ordinary people are leaning towards the shops sitting on the sidewalks and in front of restaurants as they cannot afford to buy luxury food due to rising prices of daily necessities.
Every day during the holy month of Ramadan, various events are being organized in the expensive restaurants and fast food shops of Chittagong.
Those shops are crowded by the upper castes of the society. And the only hope for low-income people is the various hotels and floating shops on the sidewalk. Crowds have increased in these sidewalk iftar markets as they are able to meet their demand for less money. During Ramadan, these temporary iftar shops are set up in different areas of the city including Chawkbazar, GEC Junction, New Market, Andarkilla, Sholashahar,Solasaher Gate Number Two, Agrabad, Muradpur etc.
