Police stations, mayor’s residence attacked in Ctg city

C T Online Desk: People protesting against Awami League took to streets of Chattogram city in jubilation shortly after learning of Sheikh Hasina’s resignation as premier, but many also sought vengeance vandalising and setting fire to different establishments linked to the ousted government.

The establishments coming under attack include: police stations, mayor’s residence and a circuit house.

Sources said the crowd attacked the Kotwali police station around 5:00pm. They carried out vandalism, damaged vehicles and set the station on fire.

The crowd also attacked the police stations at Chandgaon and Bandar areas of the port city.

In a separate incidence, attackers vandalised the house of port city mayor and Chattogram City Awami League Organising Secretary M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury.

The agitators also attempted to attack police lines of Chattogram Metropolitan Police and Chattogram district police located in the city’s Dampara and Halishahar areas.

The vandalising of the Chattogram Circuit house in the Kazir Dewri area was also reported.

On Monday evening, when this report was being prepared, thousands of jubilant people were still staying on the roads holding national flags, and chanting slogans.
