Int’l Customs Day observed in Chattogram

C T Online Desk: Jan 26, 2023 – International Customs Day 2023 was observed in the port city today.

On occasion, a seminar titled “Nurturing the Next Generation: Promoting a Culture of Knowledge-Sharing and Professional Pride in Customs,” was organised at the Chattogram Customs House Auditorium this afternoon.

Customs, Excise and Vat Training Academy Director General Md Mahbubuzzaman presided over the seminar while Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mahbubul Alam addressed the function as the chief guest.

Commissioner of Customs Bond Commissionerate AKM Mahbubur Rahman delivered the welcome speech while Member of Taxes Appellate Tribunal Chattogram Safina Jahan was the special guest.

Customs Excise and VAT Commissionerate Chattogram Syed Musfiqur Rahman, Chattogram Metropolitan Chamber Vice-President AM Mahabub Chowdhury and Chattogram Women Chamber Acting President Abida Mostafa, among others, were present at the event.

Speakers at the seminar said smart manpower is firstly required to build Smart Bangladesh announced by the Prime Minister. Sharing knowledge and achieving better professionalism to make the customs smarter in the days to come is the promise, they added.

Customs works for the welfare of the state and people by ensuring revenue generation, investment promotion, industrial development, national security, public health protection, maintaining an uninterrupted supply of goods and controlling the movement of harmful goods, they said.

The speakers said that customs of various countries are successfully using modern technologies including artificial intelligence, blockchain, and cloud computing and big data to speed up customs operations and mitigate risks in the era of the fourth industrial revolution.

Officials and representatives of the Chattogram Customs House, Excise and Vat, C&F Agents and Shipping Agents Associations also attended the seminar.
