C T Online Desk: Former finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith has been laid to eternal rest beside his parents’ grave at Raynagar Deputy House in Sylhet.
He was buried there at 2:30 pm on Sunday following his last namaz-e-janaza held at Sylhet Government Alia Madrasa ground.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Muhith’s younger brother, said his elder brother has served the people throughout his life. He was a public servant for 63 years.
Earlier in the day, people from all walks of life paid their last respects to the veteran politician at Sylhet Central Shaheed Minar.
One of the country’s longest serving finance ministers, Muhith breathed his last in the in the wee hours of Saturday.
His first namaz-e-janaza was held around 10.45 am at Gulshan Azad Mosque in the capital on Saturday.
Later, his body was taken to Central Shaheed Minar where people from all walks of life paid homage.
His second namaz-e-janaza was held at Dhaka University central mosque after Zohr prayers on Saturday.
Muhith, an economist, diplomat, Freedom Fighter and language veteran, passed away in a Dhaka hospital at around 12:56am, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said.
On July 25, 2021, Muhith tested positive for Covid-19 and recovered. In March this year, he was hospitalized as he became too weak.
