Sitrang damages Tk 500 cr in Chaktai-K’ganj, claim traders

C T Online Desk: The president of Chaktai-Khatunganj Artdar and Traders Welfare Association has claimed that at least 500 crores of taka have been damaged in wholesale market Chaktai-Khatunganj due to the flood caused by Cyclone Sitrang.

Chaktai-Khatunganj Artaddar and Businessmen Welfare Association organized a press conference at its own office on Thursday. The leaders of the association highlighted the damage caused by the tidal water and various ongoing problems due to the impact of Cyclone Sitrang.

President Jahangir Alam said, 90 percent of the shops and warehouses of Chaktai-Khatunganj have suffered extensive damage. A variety of consumer goods, including rice, pulses and spices, have rotted. 35-360 taka bag of dal is now being sold as fish feed for 150-150 taka. Also many products including raw products had to be thrown away due to rotting. President Jahangir Alam said that the weight scales of Mirsrai Baroyarhat and Daudkandi are hanging over the throats of traders.
