C T Online Desk: The land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said on Thursday night that Bangladesh and India are close and responsible neighbours.
The minister made the remarks on Thursday night at a programme at the Hotel Radisson Blu in Chattogram.
The assistant high commission of India, Chattogram organised the programme in Chattogram on the occasion of the 74th Republic Day of India.
‘Bangladesh and India are close neighbors and responsible neighbors. No one can remove this position of neighbor. The two countries maintain brotherly relations. Like India was the first to raise a hand in our freedom war. For this reason I remember and thank the people of India, the Government of India and the Indian soldiers who died. India-Bangladesh relations have progressed step by step since 1971,’ the land minister said.
The assistant high commissioner of India, Chattogram Rajeev Ranjan said that the freedom fighters of Bangladesh and the Indian Army sacrificed their lives together in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War and created a permanent bond between the two countries.
‘Today our ties are not limited to traditional areas like trade, customs, security and border management. Our bond now transcends all strategic ties. India is a committed development partner of Bangladesh. Our joint initiative to advance bilateral relations proves our cooperation for the economic development of the people of the two countries,’ he said.
Chattogram city corporation mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, whip Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury, members of the parliament in Chattogram, among others, were present at the programme.
Later, a cultural event was held at the programme where different Bangladeshi artists presented dances and songs.
