Chashma canal in city being widened

C T Online Desk:  Residents of gate number two of the city and the surrounding areas have to suffer even in light rain. During the monsoon season, 15-20 minutes of rain accumulates knee-to-waist water in this area. Apart from this, several pedestrians fell into the water of the canals and drains and were victims of accidents at different times.

Those concerned believe that due to wide narrowing of Chashma canal adjacent to gate number two, waterlogging is caused in light rain. Bangladesh Army’s 34 Engineer Construction Brigade has started work to widen the Chashma Canal to remove waterlogging in and around gate number two of the city. It is known that in the recently ended monsoon season, waterlogging has occurred in CDA Avenue, gate number two and its surrounding areas in the city. Due to this, the people living in the area and those traveling on the road have to suffer.

This inundation is caused only by the narrowing of the width of the two banks of the Chashma canal. The 26 feet wide canal has come down to 7 to 8 feet somewhere. The water from the drains of Wasa, GEC, gate number two of the city and some surrounding areas directly fell into the Chashma canal. The people concerned said that this waterlogging is mainly due to the fact that water cannot flow from this canal in a quick time.
