C T Online Desk: The journey of a only river-based ‘Bangabandhu Fisheries Heritage Resource Center’ has started for the first time in the country on the banks of Halda river in Garduara union of Hathazari upazila of Chittagong. Kabir bin Anwar, senior secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, inaugurated it.
In the speech of the chief guest, the secretary said that the government has taken various steps to preserve the biodiversity of Halda river. Among these, Halda river has been declared as Bangabandhu Fisheries Heritage. Halda River Resource Center is one such initiative; Through which the door of research was opened to protect the biodiversity of Halda river and connected canals especially fish resources.
Bangladesh Water Development Board (PDB) and Bangladesh Army presided over the event organized by Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Shahidul Alam.
At this time, Kabir bin Anwar also said that through this resource center, researchers and students of different universities of the country and abroad will be able to conduct integrated research on the fishery resources of Halda River in more detail. Apart from this, the resource center will play a significant role in protecting the carp national fish and preventing the pollution of Halda river.
