CCC-CMP to jointly work to keep encroach-free footpaths in city

C T Online Desk: The mobile court organized by the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) is conducting regular operations to keep the footpath free from encroachment. Cleaning staff are tasked with preventing reoccupation after eviction. The City Corporation is not able to stop the illegal encroachment even after forming a ‘striking’ force to no avail. As a result, the organization wrote to the police commissioner to get police assistance from the police station.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Krishnapada Roy told the media to stand by CCC to protect the footpath with a positive response. The city corporation has conducted raids on almost every road in the city for the past two months. No re-evictions where police assistance received. On the other hand, most of the places were recaptured within hours of the operation. Those concerned believe that the application of negligible punishment, extortion with the connivance of local influentials and the administration is one of the reasons behind this.
