C T Online Desk: At the initiative of the Ministry of Health, the foundation stone of 460-bed integrated Cancer, Kidney and Heart Disease Unit has been laid at Medical College Hospital in eight divisional cities of the country.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the chief guest, laid the foundation stone via video conference on Sunday at 10am.
State Minister for Education Barrister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Nawfel joined the Deputy Commissioner’s Office from Chittagong. Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Mominur Rahman, Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Kamrul Hasan, Divisional Health Director Hasan Shahriar Kabir, officials of administration, police, public works attended the function.
With this, construction work of new 15-storey Cancer, Kidney and Heart Disease Unit building of Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital has started in the vacant space adjacent to the canteen next to the existing Cancer Ward.
CMC Hospital Acting Director. Aftabul Islam said the new building has a cancer unit as well as a kidney and heart department. A 50-bed kidney dialysis center will also be set up under a different project. The two floors of the new building will be allocated for Kidney Department and Dialysis Center. In addition, two more floors will be allocated for the cardiology department including CCU. In all, the cancer unit is getting 6 floors.
The 15-storey building will have a total of 460 beds, said the head of the cancer department of CMC Hospital, Sajjad Md. Yousuf. Of these, the cancer unit as well as the kidney and heart department have been allotted a fixed number of beds.
