C T Online Desk: Chittagong Forum President and East Delta University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sekander Khan said, Patenga beach is the wealth of the people. It is the responsibility of the government to maintain it. Public access cannot be denied there. We don’t have a problem with anyone doing their business. But public access cannot be stopped.
He said these things at a press conference organized by Chittagong Forum to protest against the plan to lease Patenga beach on a commercial basis by CDA at 11:30 am on Saturday in the Sultan Ahmad Auditorium of Chittagong Press Club.
He said that the rights of the common people are being taken away. Circuit House grounds, Foy’s Lake gone. Even if we want to, we cannot spend time sitting in such a natural environment. Due to commercialization, the access of common people has been blocked there. Engineer Subhash Barua read the written statement.
He said that Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) is going to lease 1.5 km area of 7 km area adjacent to Patenga beach as tourism zone-1 and tourism zone-2 on commercial basis through tender for 25 years.
