C T Online Desk: You no longer have to rush to Dhaka for treatment of heart disease After the capital Dhaka, most cardiology interventions (angiography, angioplasty, valvular, interventions, pacemaker implantation etc.) are being provided in Chittagong. Once upon a time, people of this region used to rush to the capital with complex heart problems, but now they can easily get services at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
This was stated by a cardiologist at the first Coronary Intervention and Live Case Transmission Conference in Chittagong. About 100 cardiologists from the Chittagong region, including 35 cardiologists from different hospitals in the capital, took part in the conference, which was held at the city’s five-star Radisson Blu on Thursday.
The speakers said that Bangladesh has come a long way in cardiac treatment. Many specialized hospitals including Dhaka National Heart Hospital or Dhaka Medical College Hospital provide complete medical services for heart disease. Outside the capital, Chittagong is the only place where heart care services have progressed far. At one time people from Chittagong used to rush to Dhaka for intervention cardiology but now it is not happening. Complex treatment of heart disease is available in Chittagong.
The seminar was presided over by Ashish Dey and the chief guest was Prof. Dr. Krishna Kumar, Director, National Heart Institute and Hospital (NICVD). Mir Jamal Uddin. The special guests were the director of CMC Hospital, Brigadier General. Shamim Ahsan, Chittagong Medical College Principal Prof. Sahena Akhter.
