C T Online Desk: Sarwar Jahan Jewel Mymensingh: Mymensingh city residents have been suffering from frequent load shedding for the past week amid the intense heat. Public life has been disrupted due to repeated power outages day and night. Children, the elderly, the sick, students and businessmen are suffering the most due to the power going on and off every few minutes, especially at night.
Power outages are occurring multiple times a day in various areas of the city, including Naumahal, Notun Bazar, Ganginapara, Sankipara, Charpara and Akua. In some places, the power goes out for 20 to 30 minutes, while in others, it goes out for an hour or more. As there is no fixed schedule, residents are also uncertain about when the power will be restored or restored.
Locals complain that normal sleep is being disrupted due to frequent load shedding at night. The suffering of children and the elderly has increased due to the intense heat. Students’ studies and the activities of electricity-dependent businesses, printing, photocopying and other service organizations are also being disrupted.
Asif Hossain, a resident of Naumahal area, said, “For the past few days, the electricity has been going out so frequently at night that I can’t sleep properly. I am very worried about small children and the elderly.”
Harun, a resident of Akua area, said, “There is no specific schedule for load shedding. It is very difficult to stay at home without electricity in the intense heat. We want a solution to this problem quickly.”
In this regard, Executive Engineer of Sales and Distribution Division-1 (North) of Power Development Board (BUBO), Mymensingh, Md. Mashiur Rahman said that due to lack of fuel, both BR Power Gen and RPCL power plants are closed, so the required power allocation is not available from the Mymensingh grid. As a result, load shedding is being done in various areas under the jurisdiction of Batitrakal and Akua substations.
He further said that currently the electricity demand in the concerned area is about 49 MW, while the supply is only 36 MW. That is, due to the shortage of 13 MW of electricity, load shedding is being forced. A similar situation is prevailing in other areas of Mymensingh district.
