Operations at Chittagong port resume after 2-day shutdown

C T Online Desk: After a two-day halt, import and export operations at Chittagong Port resumed in full swing from Monday morning.

Activities have also restarted at the Chittagong Customs House, bringing relief to traders.

Operations at the customs house and port had come to a standstill from Saturday due to a “complete shutdown” program called by customs officials and employees under the banner of the NBR Reform Unity Council. Following the withdrawal of the program, customs officials returned to work on Sunday night.

Regarding this, Chittagong Customs House Deputy Commissioner Saidul Islam said: “Work resumed on Sunday night after the program was called off. However, from Monday, all import and export-related activities are fully operational.”

He added: “Imported containers are being unloaded from ships at the port. Meanwhile, export containers from private depots are being brought to the port and loaded onto ships. Unpacking and delivery of goods from containers at the port has also begun.”

Chittagong Port Secretary Md Omar Faruk said that operations at the port are running at full capacity on Monday.

“All import-export activities, including container loading and unloading, shifting, and cargo delivery, are in full swing,” he added.
