C T Online Desk: Bangladesh registered history Wednesday as they recorded their maiden series victory on South African soil after winning the third and final ODI by nine wickets at SuperSport Park, Centurion.
Chasing a below-par 155 for victory, the Tigers romped home in 26.3 overs only for the loss of opener Liton Das’ (48 off 57) wicket.
Captain and opener Tamim Iqbal was not out on a fine 82-ball 87, while all-rounder Shakib al Hasan was unbeaten on 18 as Bangladesh reached their destination with a little less than half of their overs to spare.
Earlier, Taskin Ahmed took his second ODI five-for as a disciplined Bangladesh dismissed South Africa for 154 in 37 overs.
Batting first, the Proteas openers put on 46 before it all went downhill in the face of some tight bowling by the Tigers, led by the impressive Taskin, who finished with 5/35 in nine overs.
The embattled Shakib also showed his usual bowling class putting in an economical shift, conceding only 24 runs in nine overs and bagging two wickets.
Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Shariful Islam also picked up one wicket each as the hosts lost their 10 wickets for 108 runs in the end.
In a disappointing batting display by the home team, Janneman Malan top-scored with 39 while tail-ender Keshav Maharaj made 28.
Bangladesh playing XI remain unchanged compared to the first two matches of the series while South Africa made one change as Dwaine Pretorius came in replacing Wayne Parnell.
