Cyclone Dana makes landfall in Odisha, heavy rain batters coastal districts

C T Online Desk: Cyclone Dana, a powerful severe cyclonic storm, made landfall in Odisha early on Friday, shortly after midnight, unleashing heavy rainfall and violent winds that lashed coastal districts.

With wind speeds surpassing 110kmph, the storm caused widespread damage across the region and affected parts of neighbouring West Bengal.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the landfall process began after midnight and continued into Friday morning.

The storm was centred over northern coastal Odisha, near the areas north-northwest of Dhamara and Habalikhati nature camp.

It was expected to track westward through Odisha, weakening to a regular cyclone by noon.

As a result, the cyclone was unlikely to enter West Bengal, though heavy rain would continue, officials said.

The storm’s ferocity caused extensive damage, particularly in Vansaba, Bhadrak and Dhamra, where uprooted trees and structural damage were reported.

Roads were blocked in several areas, disrupting transportation.
