Quader: Conspiracy devised to storm Ganabhaban similar to Sri Lanka Incident

C T Online Desk: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday said that there was a conspiracy to occupy Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official residence, Ganabhaban, in a manner similar to the Sri Lankan crisis if a curfew had not been imposed.

He also said the government need to verify whether certain individuals, including Dr Muhammad Yunus, had any connection with the anti-quota movement and the recent conflicts.

Quader was speaking at a program held at the District Awami League office in Tejgaon.

The road, transport and bridges minister further noted that the army had not fired any gunshots since the curfew was implemented.

“Dr Yunus used to oppose the country in secret, but now he is doing it openly. He is calling on foreigners to interfere in the internal affairs of the country with his statements. In a media interview, he is demanding new elections,” Quader said.

The Awami League leader urged international commentators to visit Bangladesh to observe the vandalism firsthand instead of issuing statements from abroad.

He emphasized: “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is not shedding crocodile tears; she is visiting hospitals and looking after the injured out of humanitarian concern.

“In contrast, BNP and Jamaat men are only issuing statements. They have no connection with the people,” he added.

The program was chaired by Dhaka District Awami League President Benazir Ahmed and moderated by General Secretary of Dhaka District Awami League Paniruzzaman Tarun.

Awami League Presidium member Dr Md Abdur Razzaque, Advocate Kamrul Islam, Organizational Secretary Mirza Azam, and other leaders of the Central Awami League and Dhaka District Awami League were also present at the event.
