C T Online Desk: Kazi Naeem Uddin, Lakshmipur Correspondent : Abdul Quader Mujahid, Upazila Engineer of Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur, has been accused of extreme irresponsibility, leaving his office with his office air conditioner (AC) on and forwarding his official mobile number to his wife’s personal number.
Today, Sunday (June 21), reporters from Daily Dhaka Pratidin and Daily Sakalbela went to see Upazila Engineer Abdul Quader Mujahid leaving his office room with the air conditioner (AC) on and going to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer’s (UNO) office for a meeting. The concerned have expressed their anger over such wastage of government electricity even though the room was empty for a long time. It is revealed that according to the policy, there is no direct rule to install an AC in the room of a 9th grade official at government expense.
When we tried to talk about the matter and contact him on his official government number for government work, a sensational piece of information came out. It was seen that despite being a 9th grade first class gazetted officer, he had not kept his official number with him, but had ‘forwarded’ it to his wife’s personal mobile number. When that number was called, Engineer Mujahid’s wife received the phone and directly admitted that the official number was forwarded to her number. Those concerned consider handing over the official phone to a family member as extreme irresponsibility and a breach of official secrecy.
Several news items were also published in various national dailies, stating that through a secret order signed by him, he had secretly sold all the development work files and old important documents of the office deposited since the creation of Kamalnagar Upazila as scrap metal and made a huge amount of money. The incident of the disappearance of extremely important government documents in this way has created a sensation in various offices of the upazila.
The investigation further revealed that immediately after joining this upazila, he embezzled more than 3.3 million taka from the upazila revenue development fund by showing only 6 fictitious projects. Several illustrated reports have been published in various national dailies regarding this. He is also accused of widespread looting in the allocation of funds from the upazila revenue fund, revenue development fund, annual development program (ADP) and upazila hat and bazaar development fund for the recently concluded 2025-26 fiscal year.
It has been reported that he embezzled about 1.16 crore taka through corruption by showing about 30 nominal projects that were not of public importance as ‘public importance’ through fake vouchers.
Attempts were made to contact Upazila Engineer Abdul Quader Mujahid to get his statement on these irregularities, corruption and forwarding of government official phones, but he could not be reached.
Kamalnagar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Rahat Uz Zaman said in this regard, “The work he did was not supposed to happen to him and I have no idea about installing AC.”
