Two-day workshop begins for CMP officers on traffic control management

C T Online Desk: May 20, 2026- A two-day training workshop on traffic control management for the officers of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) began today at a city hotel here.

CMP Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali inaugurated the workshop, hosted by the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP).

The workshop followed a recent study that shows over 44 percent of vehicles in Chattogram exceed the speed limit, leading to around 100 road accident-related deaths annually.

The training was part of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) and aimed at enhancing the capacity of police officers to control speed on the roads and ensure safety.

Peter Jones, Senior Road Policing Advisor for Asia-Pacific at GRSP, led the training sessions, focusing on the role of police in preventing road crashes, the risks of speeding, the use of technology and safe checkpoint operations.

A total of 72 police officers, including traffic sergeants, sub-inspectors, police inspectors, assistant police commissioners, and additional deputy police commissioners, participated in the workshop.

Additionally, four inspectors from the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) attended. Certificates were distributed to the participants at the end of the workshop by Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Wahidul Haque Chowdhury.
