C T Online Desk: Belgium punished a string of US defensive errors to beat the co-hosts 4-1 on Monday and reach the World Cup quarterfinals.
Charles De Ketelaere scored twice in the first half before Hans Vanaken and Romelu Lukaku struck after the interval as Belgium ended the United States’ hopes of a deep run on home soil.
Malik Tillman scored the lone US goal with a deflected free kick, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side were repeatedly exposed at the back and could not recover after Belgium’s third goal early in the second half.
Belgium will face Spain in the quarterfinals in Los Angeles after the European champions beat Portugal 1-0 earlier in the day.
