C T Online Desk: Bogura Municipality has officially been upgraded to a city corporation, coinciding with its 150th anniversary.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman formally inaugurated Bogura as the country’s 13th city corporation by unveiling a commemorative plaque at the municipal building at around 12:00pm on Monday.
With the upgrade, Bogura joins the existing 12 city corporations—Dhaka South, Dhaka North, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, Barishal, Sylhet, Narayanganj, Cumilla, Rangpur, Gazipur and Mymensingh.
The plaque unveiling ceremony was attended by Local Government Minister Mir Shah Alam, Bogura-6 MP Rezaul Karim Badsha, Local Government Secretary Shahidul Hasan, the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon and Bogura Deputy Commissioner Taufiqur Rahman, along with other senior officials.
Earlier in the morning, he arrived at the Bogura Circuit House at around 9:55am after travelling by road from his residence in Dhaka.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to visit his ancestral home and return to the city later in the afternoon.
He is expected to address a rally as the chief guest at 4:00 pm, organized by the district BNP.
