Voting in women’s reserved seats on 12 May, polls schedule 8 April

C T Online Desk: The Election Commission (EC) has finalised the schedule for elections to the women’s reserved seats in the 13th National Parliament.

The voting will be held on 12 May in these reserved seats.

Senior Secretary of the EC, Akhtar Ahmed, disclosed the decision to journalists at the Election Building in Agargaon, Dhaka on Monday (6 April).

He said the official election schedule will be announced on 8 April, when detailed timelines for the submission, scrutiny and withdrawal of nomination papers will also be provided.

A total of 50 reserved seats for women are allocated to political parties in proportion to the number of seats they secured in the 300 general constituencies. Based on the results of the 12 February general election, parties will nominate candidates for their allotted seats.

As only elected Members of Parliament serve as voters in this election, candidates are often elected unopposed when there is a single nominee.
