C T Online Desk: State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr MA Muhit has said the government is giving the highest priority to protecting every child in Bangladesh, particularly amid the ongoing measles situation.
He made the remarks while inaugurating a measles vaccination program at the Mirzapur Union Parishad office in Gazipur Sadar upazila at around 10:30am on Sunday.
“Our government is working with utmost importance for every child. No child will be left out,” he said, adding that early identification and treatment of measles cases can significantly reduce risks.
He urged parents and guardians to ensure that children aged between six months and five years receive the measles vaccine.
“If we can vaccinate all children in this age group, we will be able to ensure safety for everyone. Those receiving vaccines should also encourage others in their communities to do the same,” he said.
Highlighting the contagious nature of measles, the state minister said the virus spreads rapidly but can be controlled through widespread vaccination.
He said the vaccination program has already been launched in 30 upazilas across 18 districts, with plans to expand it soon to Dhaka, Mymensingh and Barisal city corporations.
Muhit added that decisions are being taken based on scientific data and recommendations from expert committees, with support from international organisations such as Unicef and the World Health Organization.
Responding to concerns about vaccine shortages, he said the government is taking swift steps to ensure supply.
“The program has started and will continue. Any gaps in supply will be addressed responsibly,” he said, urging media and the public to support the vaccination drive.
