C T Online Desk: Shakhawat Hossain Sabbir | Special Correspondent : BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the public is yet to clearly understand the ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ options in the upcoming referendum. Speaking at a discussion at IDEB Multipurpose Hall on Saturday, he said people are unfamiliar with the proportional representation (PR) system, making the referendum even more confusing for many.
He claimed that 15–16 years of “a destructive authoritarian government” has weakened state institutions. Despite being a Muslim-majority country with countless mosques, madrasas, and scholars, corruption and injustice continue to rise, he said, questioning why moral values are declining.
The event was chaired by Maulana Shah Md Nesarul Haque, Governor of the Islamic Foundation’s Board of Governors. Maulana Mohammad Mohiuddin, Imam of Residential Model College, attended as a special guest.
