Govt to Deploy Over 8 Lakh Forces for 9 Days of Election Security

C T Online Desk: Shakhawat Sabbir | Special Correspondent : Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced that law enforcement agencies will remain deployed and fully active for nine days surrounding the upcoming national election.

Speaking to journalists in front of Patuakhali Circuit House at around on Saturday, the adviser said, “From five days before the election, law enforcement forces will be on the ground. They will run large-scale security operations to maintain law and order.”

In response to a question about special pre-election drives, he clarified that forces will remain active for a total of nine days — five days before the polls, on election day, and three days after.

Currently, 30,000 army personnel are on the field, he said, adding that this number will rise significantly during the election period. “Around one lakh army personnel, one lakh fifty thousand police, 35,000 Border Guard members, 5,000 Navy, 4,000 Coast Guard, 8,000 RAB members, and nearly 550,000 Ansar members will be deployed,” he stated.

The adviser assured voters that there is no reason to doubt election security. “The election will be held in a very peaceful manner,” he noted.

Following the briefing, the Home Affairs Adviser left to inspect the Patuakhali Police Lines and Coast Guard Station. He will also visit the Naval Police and Tourist Police camps in Kuakata, stay overnight there, and travel to Barishal on Sunday before returning to Dhaka.
