July Warriors insulted in Mymensingh, bus services on Dhaka-Mymensingh route suspended

C T Online Desk: Sarwar Jahan Jewel Mymensingh:  Anti-discrimination activists are holding a sit-in protest in Mymensingh against the assault, abuse and injury of gazetted July fighter Abu Raihan and his removal from the bus. They started the sit-in in front of the Baskanda United Bus Counter in the city from last night. They are adamant until Saturday afternoon to arrest the accused in the Shaheed Sagar murder case, including the trial of the culprits, the arrest of the banned district Awami League district vice-president Aminul Haque Shamim, and to stop all the buses of the United Service owned by him.

The July fighters have been stationed in front of the bus counter since 9 pm on Friday. As a result, the Mymensingh-Dhaka United Service has been suspended. They are demanding the suspension of all buses plying across the country, including the 16 buses of Aminul Haque Shamim, on this service. On receiving the news, the Superintendent of Police, the District Commissioner, and army members went to the Maskanda Bus Terminal at night and calmed the situation. The police have arrested a bus worker named Jhantu in this incident.

In protest against the stance of the anti-discrimination activists, workers stopped all Dhaka-bound traffic on the Dhaka-Mymensingh bypass in the city. As a result, the common people have been suffering as no Dhaka-bound traffic has been allowed to ply since 12 noon.

July fighters Abu Raihan, Masud Rana, Mozammel Haque, Mukarram Adnan and other fighters who took up positions at the bus stand demanded (by the staff of vehicle no. Dhaka Metro-B 14-5350) that all buses of United Transport owned by Aminul Haque Shamim, an effective ally of the fallen fascist government, transportation mafia don and accused in the July Uprising Shaheed Sagar murder case of Mymensingh, should be stopped and he should be arrested immediately. Otherwise, they warned to continue the sit-in program.

Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station OC Mohammad Shibirul Islam said that Abu Raihan, a July fighter from Haluaghat, was hit by bus worker Jhantu while boarding a bus on Friday night. In this incident, even after Raihan introduced himself as a July fighter and apologized several times, Jhantu behaved indecently and insulted him and made him get off the bus. One person has been arrested in this incident. We have been trying to resolve the issue all night. Since there is no solution, the workers are protesting by blocking all types of transport on the Dhaka-Mymensingh bypass; this has increased the suffering of the common people. Senior police officials are there.

Mymensingh District Motor Owners Association President and District BNP Joint Convener Alamgir Mahmud Alam said, “The July warriors closed our service counter and detained the workers. Later, the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and army personnel went and calmed the situation. However, the workers are blocking the bus as the students are not allowing it to ply. We are looking into how the issue can be resolved.
