Rain triggers waterlogging in Port City

C T Online Desk: Waterlogging has occurred in various areas of Chittagong city due to rainfall.

Abdur Rahman, assistant meteorologist at the Chittagong Patenga met office, told Bangla Tribune that 85mm of rainfall was recorded in the 24 hours up to 11am on Wednesday.

As a result, low-lying areas, including Agrabad, have been inundated, causing the water to accumulate and create waterlogged conditions.

Since morning, rain has caused water to accumulate on main roads in several parts of the city, such as Agrabad, Chawk Bazar, Enayet Bazar, GEC, Katalganj, and Panchlaish, leading to waterlogging.

Additionally, water has entered alleyways in some areas of the city.

This waterlogging is disrupting vehicle movement on the roads.

Even pedestrians are facing extreme difficulties while walking.

However, no waterlogging was reported in the Bahaddarhat and Muradpur areas of the city.

Authorities say that waterlogging prevention projects have had a positive effect in these areas.

Meanwhile, work is ongoing on four major projects aimed at resolving Chittagong’s decades-old waterlogging problem.

The total estimated cost of these projects is Tk 14,399 crore.
