CMCH interns on work abstention as part of nationwide programme

C T Online Desk: Intern doctors of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) went on a strike since 8:00am today, demanding five points, including stricter regulations on the tittle “doctor”.

The strike are being observed as part of a nationwide programme.

About 200 interns at CMCH provide healthcare services in turns with the main doctors. Due to the work abstention, the hospital is struggling to provide services to patients, according to the hospital visitors.

Besides, Chittagong Medical College students have also boycotted classes since morning and formed a human chain inside their campus at 12:00pm demanding the same.

Contacted, Dr Rajib Palit, deputy director of CMCH, said the doctors were struggling in providing treatment to patients due to the work abstention of intern doctors.

“Our medical officers and postgraduate trainee doctors are performing additional duties to manage the situation,” he added.
