7 injured as tourist vehicle falls into ravine while returning from Sajek

C T Online Desk: A tourist jeep in Sajek, Rangamati, lost control and fell into a ravine, injuring seven people.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning at a place called Housepara while returning from a trip to Sajek, known as the “Heaven on Earth.” The tourists had traveled to Sajek from Dhamrai in Savar and Brahmanbaria.

Shirin Akhter, the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Baghaichhari in Rangamati, confirmed the incident.

She reported that there were 10-12 passengers in the jeep, and 6-7 of them were injured. The injured received initial treatment, with one person in critical condition who was taken to the Dighinala Upazila Health Center.

She further said that the tourist jeep lost control at a location called Housepara while heading from Sajek to Khagrachhari in the morning, resulting in the accident. Police and army personnel rushed to the scene and rescued the injured.

Kanak Sarkar, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Sajek Police Station, said: “The tourists were returning to Khagrachhari in the morning after visiting Sajek. Suddenly, the jeep overturned and fell 30 feet into a ravine beside the road. Several tourists in the vehicle were injured during the incident.”
