HSC, equivalent exam results likely between Oct 15-17

C T Online Desk: The results of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations are anticipated to be announced on any day between October 15 and 17, according to a proposal submitted by the education boards to the government.

Tapan Kumar Sarker, chairman of the Dhaka Education Board and President of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, informed that they are hopeful of receiving a confirmed date for the results soon.

It has been previously decided that the results for the canceled HSC and equivalent exams will be based on marks obtained in the SSC or equivalent examinations through a process known as subject mapping.

Sarker explained that for subjects where exams have already been conducted, the answer sheets will be evaluated to publish results. For subjects where exams were not held, the results will be generated based on the SSC results using subject mapping guidelines.

In late August, protests by candidates at the secretariat forced the education department to cancel the suspended HSC and equivalent exams.

2024’s HSC or equivalent exams began on June 30, with approximately 1.45 million candidates registered. Following seven exams, protests erupted demanding reforms to the quota system in government jobs, leading to multiple exam postponements. By that time, six subjects and practical exams remained.

The quota reform movement escalated into calls for the resignation of the government, and on August 5, the government led by Sheikh Hasina fell amid widespread student protests.

It was initially decided to reschedule the exams starting August 11, however, this plan was derailed due to unrest that led to damage to exam materials.

Ultimately, many candidates protested the indefinite postponement, citing mental distress, resulting in the cancellation of the remaining exams.

As the education boards prepare for the announcement, students and their families are eagerly awaiting the results.
