C T Online Desk: Biswajit Banik has been convicted 2 years 9 months for cheque fraud in four cheque cases in Chattogram. 5th Joint Metropolitan Judge of Chattogram Md.Shahidul Islam announced this verdict on August 27 last.(case No.238/2015 Order No.61). Convicted Biswajit, son of Shachindra Banik now in Chattogram Central Jail custody.It is learnt that 4 cheque fraud cases were lodged against him in 2015 and one Appeal suit No.238/2015 .Counsel of the convict Biswajit on condition of submiting petition before the higher court, the case file was presented for bail, but counsel of the state opposed it.Later Bisajk Banik convicted with one year simple imprisonment and cash money of Tk.20 lakh . On condition of bail, the accused deposited 50% of penalty, get bail on 14 August 2024. And a criminal case was lodged in (No.1066/2023) before Chattogram Metropolitan Session Judge court. Later Metropolitan 3rd Judge court declined to bail and the case file returned to the appeal court and ordered Biswajit Banik to remain present before the final case hearing. The convict again prayed for bail but the learned court rejected it and sustained the orginal conviction. The learned judge ordered to send the convict to jail custody as he is earlier convicted . Court sources said in cases No.2382/2015 , 1867 & 2025 Biswajit convicted 1 year jail, in another case No. 2924/15 gets 3 months and Case No.2479/15 get 6 months, in total in 4 cases conviction 2 yrs 9 months and now detained in Chattogram Central Jail.
The plaintiff of the case Mr.Sujit Kumar Das who is Deputy General Manager of Dainik Samakal newspaper. On behalf of plaintiff Advocate M Abu Sayeed conducted the case. It is learnt from sources that the plaintiff caused unbearable losses financially to run the cases. In other suits besides Biswajit Banik, his associate Md. Fakruddin Ahmed, son of late Dr.Raihanuddin Ahmed is still absconding shouldering conviction warrants, sources added.
