Papon resigns as BCB president

C T Online Desk: Nazmul Hassan Papon, president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has decided to step down from his position.

The decision had been speculated for several days, but the exact timing and manner of his resignation remained unclear until Wednesday, when he finalized his decision during an online board meeting, a source within the BCB confirmed.

The sudden board meeting was convened in light of the overall situation in the country’s cricket.

Along with Papon’s resignation, significant changes are expected in other key positions within the BCB.

On August 5, following the government’s fall, Papon lost his position as minister of youth and sports, with Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan taking over as interim sports adviser.

Papon had been serving as a member of parliament for Kishoreganj-6 since 2009 and took on the role of Minister of Youth and Sports in January. He had simultaneously managed his duties as the BCB president.

The current BCB executive committee, led by Papon, was set to complete its term in October next year.
