Rejecting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s call for talks to resolve the ongoing stalemate, the protesting students on Sunday started a one-point demand for the government’s resignation. This programme has obstructed vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
Yesterday, Saturday, traffic was also stopped in various parts of this highway from the afternoon due to blockades by the protesters.
On Sunday morning, this correspondent found an empty highway. Only auto-rickshaws were operating. Occasionally, when one or two trucks and covered vans tried to head towards Chittagong, the students stopped them.

AKM Sharfuddin, traffic inspector (TI) of Shimrail Camp at Kanchpur Highway Police Station, said that the protesters have blocked the highway since morning. There has been less traffic on the road since last night. We are working to restore normal traffic flow.
