Quota reform movement: Arrested 78 HSC examinees secured bail

C T Online Desk: Following the initiative of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq, 78 HSC examinees secured bail from different courts across the country even on a weekend on Friday.

Among them 55 students from the Dhaka Division, 14 from the Chittagong Division, six from Khulna Division and three people from Rangpur Division.

The law minister took a special initiative to grant bail to the HSC examinees who were arrested in connection with the ongoing violence and vandalism-related cases centering on the quota reform movement.

For this reason, he has directed the prosecution team (prosecutors) across the country to be proactive in granting bail to the students quickly.

Because of this directive, 37 candidates from Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court and five candidates from Chief Judicial Magistrate court got bail even on Friday holiday.

Their postponed exams are scheduled to be held from August 11.

Earlier on Thursday, a press release from the home ministry said that if any of the detainees involved in recent violent incidents are current HSC examinees, they will be provided legal assistance for bail if they apply with their exam admission papers and relevant documents.

Furthermore, the government will also provide legal assistance for the bail of detained students against whom there are no serious charges.
