C T Online Desk: Port activities of the Chattogram Port begins in full swing from yesterday through manual process of customs documents . Lack of internet service , chattogram customs service remained stranded for the last few days . Port sources said loading, unloading in vessels at outer berths and inner berths operating unhindered. But delivery of consignments from port sheds partially hampered . There was no hindrances in loading, unloading at outher and inner berths. Port secretary Omar Farooq told New Nation that functioning of innerberths going unterru;ptedly and decline to c comment on losses of the [port without total assessment.
Ascertaining of losses is undergoing, he told.
According to the sources, during normal times more than 5 thousand export invoices and more than 1 thousand import invoices are cleared daily at Chittagong Custom House. Chittagong port has a capacity of 42 thousand 120 TEUs (20 feet long) of imported goods. In contrast, Tuesday’s container was around 40,000. 79 thousand 11 tons of goods were discharged on Monday, 1 lakh 16 thousand 433 tons on Sunday. 65 TEUs of on-chassis containers delivered on July 22. Four ships left the port with 3,234 TEUs of export containers that day. There were another 947 empty containers in these ships.
Meanwhile movement of vehicles in the port less visible during curfew hours . But from yesterday , fullswing operation of transports includinmg public transports seen plying without any barriers. Pullers of auto rickshaws, rickshaws seen sittingh idle in roads lack of passengers. All typres of shops except medical services remain shut during students hesitations . Kitchen markets, shopping malls seen fully functioning till 6 pm yesterday. The rickshaw dri vers are very affec ted lack of enough passengers during hartal and curfew hourss. Day labourers passed days without works for thje last few days, lo cal soiur ces added.
