A group of students of International Islamic University Chattogram (IIUC) blocked the Dhaka-Chattogram highway and railway at Sitakunda upazila on Tuesday, protesting attacks on quota reform demonstrators nationwide.
At around 11 am, the students brought out a procession from the campus and marched to the highway and railway nearby.
Blocking the highway and the railway, they chanted slogans protesting the attacks on different university campuses yesterday.
Traffic and train movements through the busy highway and railway came to a halt due to the blockade.
Bara Awlia Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khokon Chandra Das told the Daily Sun that hundreds of vehicles got stuck on both sides of the highway due to the blockade.
“We are trying to convince the student to leave the highway considering the public suffering,” he said.
