Third gender candidate elected vice chairman in Jhenidah Sadar

C T Online Desk: Barsha Hijra, a third gender community member, has been elected as vice chairman of Jhenidah Sadar Upazila by a huge margin.

She used the election symbol of butterfly while her closest rival Arti Dutta used the duck symbol.

With Barsha’s election, Jhenidah Sadar has got four public representatives elected from the third gender community in back-to-back elections, signaling many locals have become desperate for a change in the political winds.

Barsha has told the media that she has no family to look after, and thus she can work for the people unreservedly without any interruption. Jhenidah Sadar people are reportedly looking up to her to fulfill many of their demands.
