C T Online Desk: Feb 16, 2023- The 81st birth anniversary of renowned nuclear scientist with international repute and prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s husband Dr. M A Wazed Miah was celebrated in a befitting manner here today.
Different organisations celebrated the birth anniversary with various programs in a befitting manner at his birthplace Laldighee Fatehpur village in Pirganj upazila and Rangpur city.
The district and Pirganj upazila administrations, Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies, Dr. Wazed Miah Foundation, family of Dr. Wazed, Begum Rokeya University, Dr. Wazed Smriti Sangsad and other organisations chalked out programs marking the occasion. The programs included placing of wreaths at the grave of Dr. Wazed at his native Laldighee Fatehpur village and offering Fateha and munajats seeking eternal peace for his departed soul and wellbeing of his other family members.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Abu Jafar, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Chitralekha Nazneen, Superintendent of Police Md. Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, Commandant of Bangladesh Marine Academy, Rangpur Captain Md. Shafiqul Islam Sarker, Pirganj Upazila Chairman Nur Mohammad Mandal, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Biroda Rani Roy and other officials placed wreaths there in the morning.
Later, leaders of Rangpur district and Pirganj upazila AL and other organisations, including member of AL central committee Md. Khalilur Rahman Mandal, Convener of Rangpur district AL Chhayadat Hossain Bakul, General Secretary of Pirganj upazila AL and Pirganj municipal Mayor Tazimul Islam Shamim, heads of educational institutions and many other organisations placed there wreaths and offered Fateha.
Leaders of Dr Wazed Smriti Sangsad led by its General Secretary and senior journalist Saiful Islam Jahangir placed wreaths at the grave of Dr. Wazed in village Laldighee Fatehpur and offered Fateha. The organisation arranged milad mehfils followed by offering special munajats at different mosques and a discussion in Rangpur city and distributed prizes among winners of different competitions organised marking the 81st birth anniversary of Dr Wazed.
Under joint initiatives of the district and Pirganj upazila administrations, recitation from the Holy Quran followed by a milad mehfil, offering special munajats and distribution of improved foods among orphans were arranged at Gopinathpur Hafizia Madrasa and Orphanage in Tukuria union of Pirganj upazila.
Besides, Pirganj upazila AL organised a doa mehfil followed by a memorial discussion at ‘Joysadan’ in Fatehpur Laldighee village. Presided over by Vice-president of Pirganj upazila AL Shahidul Islam Pintu, its General Secretary of Pirganj municipal Mayor Tazimul Islam Shamim moderated the discussion.
Dr Wazed’s eldest nephew, Chairman of Dr. Wazed Miah Foundation and Convener of Rangpur district AL Chhayadat Hossain Bakul addressed the discussion as the chief guest. Vice-presidents of upazila AL Enamul Haque Shahin and Rabiul Islam, its Joint Secretary Sadekul Islam Sadek, heroic freedom fighter Md. Nurul Haque and family members of Dr. Wazed addressed the discussion. The speakers said Dr. Wazed worked and served the nation selflessly with a patriotic zeal for building a technologically advanced Sonar Bangla to immortalize ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
On February 16, 1942, nuclear scientist Dr. Wazed, affectionately called as ‘Sudha Miah’, was born in a respectable Muslim family of Laldighee Fatehpur village in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur district. He breathed his last in Dhaka on May 9, 2009 at the age of 67 and was buried at their family graveyard in his native Laldighee Fatehpur village at Pirganj upazila.
